Swish
We enjoyed celebrating Harvest with a weekend of events. On Saturday night the ladies of the church held a Swish. Clothes that were no longer worn or wanted were swapped for different ones, in a relaxed informal evening with drinks and nibbles. A lovely way to embrace recycling of our clothes.
Harvest Fest
It was great to gather and celebrate God’s care and provision for us at our Harvest Fest. There were spots of rain during set-up, but the clouds were soon replaced by glorious Autumnal sunshine, the changeable weather itself illustrating how God provides all that is needed for the crops to grow.
As Psalm 65 tells us: ‘You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with corn, for so you have ordained it.’ The gathering had a festival feel with a range of eco-themed stalls and activities which reminded us that we are commissioned to be the ‘care-takers’ of creation. During our gathered time of worship we received a harvest food offering which has been donated to the Community Emergency Foodbank.
Youth Harvest Feast
HBC Youth Celebrated Harvest in their own way with a harvest feast. Three courses made up of hearty soup, roast chicken and toffee apple crumble all set around harvest banquet tables went down really well. The atmosphere was full of celebration, thankfulness and loads of laughter. After we ate the older youth gathered for a time of worship and we reflected on the story of God providing food in the desert for his people. We saw that it’s in God’s will to provide good things for his people and we were challenged to have faith that God provides.
