On Saturday 11th July, Headington local churches organised the 10th Summer Fun Day in Bury Knowle Park. This is an event that we are involved in running every year with Churches Together in Headington, the aim is to create a safe space for people of all ages and all backgrounds to relax and enjoy together.
The sun shone, and the people came – we estimate that maybe a couple of thousand people attended and enjoyed the various activities. Face-painting was as popular as ever, but we had a return of the highly competitive hammer and nail challenge –how many hammer hits do you take to bang a nail in? We had to limit some people’s over-competitiveness! Other activities were Sumo wrestling, bouncy castle, human table football, henna hands, and balloon modelling – some of the shapes created were a little dubious, but the children seemed happy!
The free food on offer was so popular that for the first time we had run out of cakes by 4pm!
What did the people who attended think?
“Absolutely fantastic – best day of the year!”
“Thank you very much, a lovely thing for the churches to offer Headington.”
Have a look at these photos and see who you can spot!
From the response cards, we got the feedback that free food was the most popular part of the day, but the second most popular was ‘Atmosphere/community feeling’ which affirms why we do this. How great to be able to meet so many people from our community and enjoy fun in the park!Share this:
