Lightly Seasoned (Matthew 5:13-16)
Chris Band, January 20, 2019Part of the Sermon on the mount series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
We are to be salt and light in the world, to give flavour and illumination to the world and to make a difference.
To be distinctive and visible as a community in the world.
Salt is the enemy of decay, prevents corruption, is antiseptic, purifies, cures etc etc. And we are called to be salt in the world.
We may have lost our distinctiveness. We have many similarities with non-Christians, but we are forgiven and our brokenness is being restored. We are in a relationship with the holy, loving God.
We shine out as Christians as we speak out the Word of God.
Salt in a morally decaying world; light in a spiritually dark world.

Matthew 5:13-16
13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
